The story of the beginning has always fascinated me. Even through my darkest hours when I strayed from God, there was always this call back to the beginning. The Genesis story is full of purpose and meaning.The display of God as being involved with us even though we fail is inspirational.
The way God deals with mankind intrigues me. Many people say this story at the Beginning is fictitious and a metaphor but I believe it to be true in reality. There is no reason that it could not be true. I think it was included not just as a story made up but a part of history to bring us back to ourselves and who we are why we are here and to show the way back to God.
Many times in the bible God is described as a loving father and Genesis is one of those perfect examples. He gives Adam the command to keep the Garden then right after he commands that he can eat of every fruit except one, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Like a father he gives us a choice, he gives us freedom and a stern warning. Instead of protecting us from every evil he presents the choice and keeps us accountable for what we decide making us responsible. Unfortunately we make bad choices in the beginning and throughout life but God has been with us every step of the way trying to guide us back the truth.
This life is full of risks and evil but yet God still allows it to exist. Why?the most heinous murders and worst imaginable things happen on this world that could make our stomachs turn. God has made this world and allows this to continue. I believe this tells us something very profound and mysterious about who God is he loves freedom. Even though men have used their freedom to pervert the earth and to kill their brothers who were made in the image of God disgracing his very name and commands. God does not interfere with there choices but judges them according to their deeds and even give the great mercy.
For me if someone savagely murdered someone close to me with no excuse and took pleasure in it that makes me sick to my stomach. In my eyes that person is unredeemable and has no chance at salvation and should never be shown mercy. Gods different, I heard stories where some of the worst criminal have found God and will be in heaven. That is a tuff pill to swallow.
If we look back to creation and the beginning of our existence I think it will show us a lot about who we are and who God is. Hopefully this will help us to find redemption in Gods eyes and freely choose to come back to him and forever search out who he is. If we ever loose our sight on who God is we just need to look back where it all started. GENESIS
